Mechanical fuel pump

Hey guys I had changed out my mechanical fuel pump filter in the bottom bowl and noticed that the one that was removed looked like an aquarium air filter, different shape but similar texture. The new one that I got from my local marine shop was different material- fine cloth or fine screen will this have any effect on the carb as far as fuel pressure,delivery ect.. Thank you

I don't have an aquarium, so don't know what their filters look like, but the Merc fuel pump replacement filter is a ceramic type filter and replaces the paper elements that were previously used.
I would also STRONGLY suggest you install a water seperator/fuel filter between your engine and fuel tank. Then you won't have to change that fuel pump filter so often.
