Default 1986 35hp Mercury power trim wiring

I am in the process of building/ putting together a boat. When I got the hull I had no controls or motor.. Now I have a new set of Mercury Controls and a 1986 35hp Mercury with power trim (Hydraulic) I am trying to figure out the wiring of the power trim.... Help!!!!

concerning The wires from the controls.. Which ones go to the power trim? I have a short Tack harness and a few extra wires and the main long harness that plugs into the motor with a few extra wires.

any help will be appreciated... Thanks

Not all merc/controls are for power trim if your is it should have a red, blue and green wire included in the harness but not at the plug at the plug the should be seperate wire or a seperate plug. Which harness do you have?

I am at work right at the moment so I am not sure of the colors. My Merc controls have the power trim control on the handle its a model #881170a15.

There is the long cable that goes to the motor and plugs into the motor harness. On that end of that harness there are 3 or 4 seperate wires along with the plug.

There is also a short harness that somes out less than a foot from the control box. This harness has a small plug and I think 3 or 4 seperate wires. I believe the wire colors you descibed are in this group.

The short harness from the box should be for dash instruments

Yes those are instrument wires Mercury make a plug and harness for that 4 wire plug to run a voltmeter,m tach and other instruments. So with a trim switch on the handle is wired thru the 12 pin connecter on the engine plug

On the pump there are 2 large 10gauge (estimated) sized wires red and black. I am guessing those go to the battery. There is also a round plug that sits under the 2 Solenoids that has 3 slots about the size of a wire Spade connectors. What goes in there? one of the wires going into it has an inline fuse holder.

and where does the 2 wires go coming from the outboard?

Thanks for your help

The 2 larger wire go to the battery and there was originally a harness that plugged into the 3 slot plug if you have one your in business, if not ck the marinas for a doner harness or just bypass it with you own wires. Original the red from the plug was fused as it ran to the tilt/trim switches (coast guard req) and the blue wire was up and the green was down

No harness so I will bypass it.

So if I get this right the red from my controls harness plugs into the red on the pump plug.

Where does the blue and green from the contols wire harness attach?

Where does the blue and green wires from the motor attach?

Your help has been great... Thanks

The red wire (power) just plugs into the pump or may be attached to the + battery wire just fuse it if you do that and the blue wire comes from the up side of the switch to the blue side of the plug or the solinoid with the blue wire on it and the green goes to the other side or solinoid
