Default Aluminum Boat Transom Modification.

hi all, here is the boat in question.

i bought a new 25 hp motor that i got a great deal. the only thing was that the motor was the last one in stock and was a long shaft model. this weekend i tried it out on the water. the engine sits a little low in the water but runs fine. the only problem is that water starts coming in from the front of the engine between the transom and engine at full throttle.

now my questions is how difficult would it be to raise the transom about 5/6 inches (which is also the extra Length of a long shaft). From the middle of the transom (where the motor would sit) to the top is about 6 inches.

I did a search but I didnÂ’t find anything. Any info would be appreciated.

thx

Rebuild the entire wood section of the transom and make the transom near straight across. 2 good pieces of marine plywood glued and bolted in should do it. You might want to fabricate and extend the center brace to be closer to the top.

we have done this in the past. cut 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood, 5" x what ever you need then using aluminum angle, available a HD or Lowes, thru bolt the angle thru the existing transom, and the addition, using the angle on both sides of the motor inside and outside, it ain't pretty but it worked

I'll second the Captains idea.

Just remove the top, end caps and the bolts holding the wood in. Replace the wood with a piece 5-6" taller.

You may be able to get the top cap to fit back on after a little shaping.
