I would rank Seaswirl on a par with Key West. Plenty decent construction, not very fancy appointments or finish. The brakeless trailer would put me off more than the Seaswirl brand.

Might check local laws on the trailer brakes; some states require them and there may be a tow vehicle weight vs trailer (and boat) weight that helps to determine if required or not.

Course you can always add them but get ready for $500 or so for parts if you use the surge type; more if you use electric.

If no law problems, for a 21 ft boat, without brakes, I'd be looking at a 1 ton truck for towing.......to realize the benefit of the larger brakes.

21' is a big boat to be hauling down the highway at 70 mph and the 1 ton setup would haul it much better.

My 2c,

Mark

i had a 20' cc w/ 150hp engine on a trailer without brakes. pulled it with my tacoma. it did the trick, i just needed to drive slow and stop early. but yes, brakes are recommended.

as for quality of boat, i've never heard anything bad about the stripers. i think they are middle of the road in a very large class.

first, look very closely to the condition of the boat and how it's kept. best indication of how the owner treated it. don't get caught up in the cool electronics he installed, focus more on the boat and engine. if you can, bring a friend along that knows boats to look it over with you. you can do a survey, but i think for a boat in that class, you can avoid the cost of one if you are a little smart. finally, sea trial if you possibily can.
