Sounds to me like a fuel problem. When it sputters try pumping the primer bulb. When is the last time the carbs/fuel pump were cleaned or rebuilt?

You can test on muffs. Like said above it sounds like a fuel prob. Check fuel pump. Clean carbs.

Also, have you had stale fuel in the tank for any length of time? If so, the tank filter screen may be varnished up contributing to the fuel starvation.

Then do a decarb (Search on this site).
