I've got a 1954 evinrude 15hp that runs great, except that as i run it full throttle, every once in a while it jumps, kind of like when you hit something, but not as drastic. I am completely at a loss. Any information on what is causing this?
Sounds like the dog gear in the lower unit is slipping. It probably won't won't do it at lower RPM's. Sadly, finding new replacements are rare, I don't think they are available any longer.

i know what you are saying, i have a '55 15 rude. mine does it more at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle but almost never at WOT. the main thing is to shift it at the lowest rpms that it will run. the clutch dog gears are basically square, with age the edges get round and the slip. i'm not worrying about mine for now. if it finally quits, i'll hunt a lower unit.
