prop selection!

Hi guys am i correct in thinking that the lower the pitch in a prop (i.e. 13-1/2 down to a 12 or 11-1/2) then the higher it is going to rev thus getting it nearer to the engines optimum rev range, and would this then make the vessel go faster?.
i have a 15ft chrysler striper with a US MARINE force 50 (1990)with top speed of 25knots(gps) at WOT weather i have 1 or 4 guys on board, just bought a tacho but not arrived yet but the engine does not appear to rev as high as other outboards that i have heard in use.

Re: prop selection!

get your tach installed and verified. then play with props.
most those force motors wont tolerate much past 5K for long.
in fact I dont reccomend pushing them harder than about 4500

Re: prop selection!

thankyou for your fast response rodbolt as soon as my tach arrives i will fit it and if it is revving at 4500 WOT then i will just buy the same size prop as the old one has abit of damage and looks out of balance slightly, thanks again from the UK.
