Please explain the performance charactoristics of a 9 X 10 prop vs a 10 X 7 prop.<br />I have an 1987 Johnson, 15hp. It's on a 12 Ft. Western boat. ( About 180 lbs. 66 inch beam) My current prop is 91/2 x 10. With me, 205 lbs, and fishing gear, 5 Gal tank. it planes and really goes. With three people in the boat it just plows along. I boat at 6000 Feet and have been told I need a "High Altitude" prop. So am trying to deside what to get.

OMC made a 4 blade 10 X 9 prop #176266 for heavy loads. If you can find one, it might fill your needs.

Re: Compare props for 15hp

I have a 14 foot Klamath with a 1975 15 HP Johnson and have the same problem. By my self with fishing gear an icechest the dog and 6 gal of fuel boat planes and really moves out. If I add the Wife and kid boat will not plane. I tried a OMC 9 3/8 by 9 by 3 blade stainless steel prop. This works great when alone but does not plane with the wife and kid either. I also have the 176266 10 by 9 by 4 blade prop. This prop moves a lot of water and backs up at 4 times the speed but is not as fast as the Stainless with the heavy load. I think the only answer is a bigger motor with more HP.
