Mine gets cleaned real good about once a month. It rides around in the bed of the truck and is used pretty often. I spray it off with the water hose with the nozzle set of high. I then use carb cleaner/brake cleaner to get the old junk off. After that it gets 10 weight oil or a high quaility spray on lubricant. You have got to keep them clean to work correctly. If they are dirty the pins will stick and not fully engage, and it ain't funny when they release.
