Default What size engine to buy

Hi... We are looking to purchase a Sea Ray 250 select ex. Any comments appreciated as to what size engine would work best in this 26ft boat. Is the Merc 320hp going to give good performance? Don't want to buy a boat and find out it has an under performing engine. Thanks

Hi Stover1, Welcome to iboats!!!!!Personally, I would be happy with the 320HP, speed ain't my thing. What is it you need from the boat (skiing/cruising/barefoot/fish etc etc)?Generally, most people will tell you to buy the biggest motor you can afford. Do they offer larger power packages (375HP. 425HP)?Aldo

I would be the one to say the bigger the better can always run at reduced power. I would think 320hp on a 26 footer would give avg. performance

Thanks for the input. We will use the boat for cruising, tubing and skiing. The lake is very large with lots of traffic and the waves can get rather big. I am thinking the 320 should do the job also.
