Default Problem with Depth Finder

I have Sea Ray 250DA, 1997. Depth finder flickers back and forth from 1' to 2', no matter what depth I'm at. Where in the bilge area is the depth finder? Thank you.

I have the same problem. My depth finder is a Hummingbird and not sure if it was original equipment or the previous owner added it. Again, having the same problem going to 1-2 feet and then just staying on one or the the other. Mine will act goofy and then will work fine all day. The problem seems to be intermittent. The sensor should be attached to the transom on the back of the boat. At least mine is.

Is the depth finder factory installed or was it installed later? The transducer can be in a couple of spots. Aftermarket depthfinder or fishfinders can have the transducer mounted on the transom. If it's a factory installed depth finder, the transducer can be a thru hull style. It would be in the bilge. You could see it from underneath as a round flat black disc. Has it ever worked? Was it recently installed? Transducers operate at only 2 frequencies. For example, if you have a factory depth finder, and you install a depth/fish finder, the transducers could be using the same frequencies and would then cause erratic readings. If that isnt the case or it did work at one time with no new instruments installed, you could have a failure.

Dart Guy, thanks for the response. Yes, it is factory installed. There is this black round, circular thing very easily accessible at the bottom of the bilge area, it had vent type arrangments around it ...I thought it was the bilge pump.Could this be Depth finder? Can I just unscrew it? It looks to be very, very solidly attached to the hull. Thanks again!
