Just got this ( 1983 Bayliner Capri 1600 )with a Force outboard. There is not an obvious motor id tag, but the cowling has 85 on it. Can someone tell me what the model number of the outboard would be without power trim and tilt? Is there another way to determine the model without disassembly?

None visible. Have a clymer book that was given with boat and I looked in the 2 locations per the book and found nothing. What would model numbers be for that year outboard? BTW I was born in Somerset, KY

I am assuming that you mean the tag or sticker that indicates the model and serial numbers. And there is nothing like that on either side of the mounting frame or motor housing. It is a 3 cylinder engine and the plugs are NGK BUHX, if that will help.

Try posting in the Chrysler force forum in engines.You may need to ask a mechanic to identify it though.90% of the 85's are the same just a few things are different. Go by the year you believe the boat is as they came with the boat unlike other MFG where they sold you the boat and then offered you a motor of their choice.

Never mind, I checked and asked another source that noted that the tag could be under the carbs. Sure enough, it was there 856X3L
