I am looking at buying very clean and well maintained 1996 GTX 581...I was wondering about their reliability and anything to look out for...asking price is 2000 with a trailer. I know it is a little high. <br />Any advice would be great.

A 96 gtx is a 787 with 110 hp if all the guages work and the engine runs good they are a good ski just ugly as hell I know I have one myself, 2000 is below nada book value so it isn't a high price including a trailer the ski I am on in my avatar is a 96gtx

Jeff, I am sorry it is a 96 GTS, with only a fuel gauge. The price might seam a little high but it was always maintained. Another concern is what type of oil should be used in it. It has always had Pennzoil in her...should I switch to Sea-doo. I hear of bad things about not using "manufactors oil", I've had snowmobiles for 30 years and have different oils all the time with no problems.

big difference that is a 587 engine 60 hp in perfect condition with a trailer it is only worth 1500 nada retail value, and as for oil any tcw3 is fine. as for the hull design I honestly think it was the worst one on a 3 seater that sea doo ever made and the seat is like sitting on a board,, I know because my wife has a 96 gti with the 720, 80 hp engine in it, but it is the same hull and seat, just being honest with you .
