Default Buying 1st Used Boat

I'm interested in buying 1st used boat, a 1999 Sprint ProMaster 190, deep V hull. Engine is 135 hp Mariner, and boat comes with trailer. Seller is asking $12,000. Boat has only been used in fresh water, and price looks to be in line with NADA. Has anyone had experience with this make of boat in Salt Water? Does price sound right to you? Anything specific to look for prior to purchasing? Appreciate any help I can get before plunging ahead. Thanks.

Default Re: Buying 1st Used Boat

Cosidering that it is a 1999 and it comes with a trailer I doubt it spent much time at a dock. I would consider it about $1000 to much but considering the supply/demand of the season it is okay...I hope it is in perfect shape. Ask when was the last time the impellar was changed and the engine was tuned up. I would almost insist that that be done if it has not been performed this year. That along is worth $150-200. Also inquire about the past off season storage...was the oil system and gas completely drained out. If not the oil injection WILL gumm up the lines and make the carbs in close need of a cleaning/rebuild. Mariners are great motors and the deal sounds okay provided you get a solid maintenance history. I don't have any salt water experiance with that rig but as a consellation there are dealers in salt water areas (Florida).Bob (Ret Army )
