New to boating and looking at buying late 90's gamefisher boat/trailer/motor. I am looking for feedback on the quality of the motor and experience with past repairs and reliability.
Thanks....Brad

you might wanna try the outboard non repair discussions, you might get more responses there, but anyways, i don't know too much about gamefishers although they are somewhat of a popular "off-brand" engine. I see a lot of them on ebay and all seem to be ok. they don't cost a lot either.

Re: Gamefisher 12' w/9.9 motor

Without looking at the Gamefisher I would guess it is a relabled force 9.9. My dad bought a new one of these and it was a notorious hard starter. It would flood very easily. Also, it would not idle well and die.

The connections under the hood for the gas lines used crimp connectors that leaked fuel and sucked air. these took a while to diagnose, but once replaced with true hose clamps it ran without starving at high speed.

He wouldn't let me tear into it to get the carb situated correctly but other than the flooding issues it ran well. Parts may be an issue as you would be looking for a certain year Force 9.9. I don't think you will find Gamefisher parts, maybe I'm wrong.

As for the Aluminum boat, I don't think you will have any issues. Not much to go wrong there. If it leaks, get out the JB weld.

Gamefisher = Force = Chrysler = junk. Stick with a Jonnyrude, Merc, Yamaha, Suzuki, or Honda.

I don't think you would be happy with it for very long. If it was a very, very good deal then maybe, but you would be better off to continue looking.

The Gamefisher boat was made by Myers Boat works in Michigan and sold by Sears ... a very good company and, if it's the model I'm familiar with, a semi V that you'll get a lot of fun and use out of.

The motor (Sears again) is a Force and the 9.9 was one of the more reliable they sold. You can still get parts through either Sears or Mercury, since Merc bought out Force some time ago. The one I have experience with gave no problems, started easily and was very reliable ... but then that owner performed regular service, too.

Around here, that rig would go for about $800 to $1000.

Good luck ...
