I know that on a automotive engine that a tach must be set for a 4,6 or 8 cylinder engine. Is it the same on a 2 cycle? Changing for a 4 cylinder to a 6. Horsepower the same, but do I need to change tachometers?

Re: Tachometer question on outboard

Most popular 3,4, and 6 cylinder outboards use the alternator for the tach pulses and the tach is special for that. Most use the #6 setting which refers to the pulses per revolution.
