Our top notch outboard mechanic here in San Dog, says, the average 2 stroke can last for 1500 hrs of salt water use. 3000 hrs of salt water use, is the best he's ever seen.
Whose got the longest lasting out board out there?
I'm at 500 hrs on a 99 Force 120hp.

Re: Longest Life expectancy of a 2 stroke?

beats me on the hours but a 140/120 jonnyrude I frankenstiend together for a crabber customer in 98 had burned over 13,000 gallons of gasoline by about this time last year according to his fuel reciepts. its still oil injected as well. if halfway maintained and the fuel, oil and cooling systems kept in top shape ,that means replacing parts that still work well and did not fail, I have seen many crabbers exceed 3000 hours. but neglect the maint and 300 hours can be normal.
I have actually seen 2 outboards in 30 years that just plain wore out, all the rest died of fuel, oiling or cooling system maint,or lack of.

Interesting, Have a look at the Other Outboards forum next door , and see post: Mixture on a '63 West Bend, last message. West bend is where Chryslers came from. with care and enough oil, all things are possible.
