Force won't run in lake

I have a 1993 Force 90HP. It will run like a top with the water hose hooked to it but when I put it in the lake it will not go. It will idle for a while but when throttled up it will bog down and die. <br /><br />I know it needs an impeller in the water pump, could that be the only problem? :confused:

Check the compression. You may not have enough compression to force exhaust out of the lower leg in the lake. Try running it in a barrel or trash can to see if it does the same as in the lake.

to rule out compression problem, you could also pick up a compression tester from napa or sears as this would greatly help to isolate or rule out problems. if compressionloss, could be as small as a failed head gasket or much larger (read expensive) problems...if compression related.
