Re: 55 hp Chrysler HAS NO POWER

Could be a bunch of things. Did motor run well or is it new for you? Idle is good. When you prime the fuel bulb does it get hard? With cowling off do you see any fuel leaking around the carburator? With the cowling off advance the throttle all the way open and see if the throttle butterfly opens all the way. Basic start for troubleshooting is to test the compression. Also rebuild the fuel pump and the carburator and it would not hurt to replace the fuel bulb and all the fuel hose. All this can be done for about 50 dollars. Compression test should be first because if you have cylinder damage you may not want to invest the money it would take to repair it. Also how old is the gas in that motor. If gas sat in the carb for a long period of time it could be varnished and gummed.

You should also get a service manual for this motor. Syloc is a good one. Here is a link for the manual
Chrylser Manual
It is getting harder and harder to find mechanics to work on these motors. They are simple to work on if you have the manual.
