Hey all,

Recently my 1987 85hp Force was working. The next day the darn thing would not start up. When we try to start it up everything fires but it seems like the motor is not spinning fast enough. After a few starts the startor gets hot and it will start to smoke out of the top. I am guessing that this smoke should not accour but is this a tall tail sign that the startor is bad? Or do all startors get hot after awhile?

Re: Startor Smoke

Test your battery. If it is ok, then your starter is probably going bad. If you are mechanically inclined at all, take it apart and give it a cleaning, put new brushes in it and grease the bushing that the shaft rides in. I tore mine apart and found water in it. I cleaned it and now it is like new.
