I have an 89 Force 85 hp. When starting cold I squeeze the bulb until hard , then push in the choke. As soon as it fires I have to keep squeezing the bulb, otherwise it dies. After a couple of minutes it finally keeps on running without bulb. I suspect that maybe the fuel pump maybe stretched, initially struggles to pull enough gas to fill the carbs?

Paul
89 Force 85 on 17'Bayliner cuddy

Why not just rebuild the fuel pump. Cheap and easy to do.
