I was getting ready to replace my impeller on my 75hp and was wondering which impeller to use. the sierra impeller looks like the chysler original with about 12 'fins' and a brass center where the replacement impeller(after merc bought force)is now a 5 'fin' impeller with a nylon(?) center. what are the pro's and con's of each? the price difference is only about $20 so the cost really isnt a factor if one functions better that the other. thanks :)

I have never heard of a 5 bladed chrysler impeller. They have a six blade and a 12 blade. I know on the 45 hp the 12 and the 6 are interchangable however for a 75 my guess is you should stick with the 12 blade. The plastic cored ones work just as well as the brass ones in my opinion. I have had the glue separate on the brass ones. IF it were me I would stick with the 12 blade. I believe the number is 18-3085

Re: chrysler look-a-like impeller or merc??

Quick question guys - I too have a 75hp Chrysler Force. It has sat for almost 2 years when I purchased the boat. Replace 2 of the 3 spark plug and engine started right up. However its not sucking water. My task for this weekend is to replace the impeller. Found an impeller at the Mercs and More in Denver CO...but sales person says there is no kits and engine H2O pump does not use a seal? Correct or no? I also have the service manual and no seal is present. I hope that once I replace the Impeller and blow out and clean the the intakes the motor will start to ****. Any suggestions on getting to to **** is greatly appreciated. Will also be replacing the lower case oil.

Usually no seal for the impeller. Should be a impeller key a stainless steal plate and the pump body. When installing insert key and impeller Push the pump body down over the impeller while slowly turning the drive shaft clock wise and use firm downward pressure on the pump body till it seats. A little dish soap or lower unit oil on the impeller vanes will make this task a little easier.
