I messed up my prop on my 87 85hp force today. I was trying to find out what the fatory pitch is for this motor. Also what is the best pitch to have for this motor or any thing that would help me to find a new one. Thanks!!!!

The "correct" prop will vary, depending on what boat you have.

You select the prop that will let your motor run in the recommended rpm range, 4500-5500 rpm for your motor.

If you have a tach and know what your Wide open throttle rpm's were with your old prop, and the size of the old prop, then choosing the new prop is easy.

If you don't have the above info, then we are guessing.

Do you happen to know the above info?

How was your holeshot with the old prop?

Might want to read this:

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000015

I use a 17" prop with a 13 pitch on my 85 HP. Bayliner Capri 1700.

I think you mean a 13 inch diameter with a 17 pitch. :D

If your at sea level or up to 2000Ft try a 17 pitch to start. Above 2000 Ft then try a 15 pitch.

Greatday try a SEARCH nextime and WELCOME to iBOATS!

Yes, I do... I think I was out in the sun a bit too much this weekend.

*smacks self*

I also have a 19 pitch spare, but it's a bit much for this motor and boat size (I have the same rig as Realgun). I got it thinking I was going to gain a couple of miles per hour top speed. I ended up losing hole shot and a couple of miles per hour on the top end.

Anyway, the general rule is up in pitch, higher top speed, down in pitch, better hole shot.

It can't be the same I took off the aft windows replaced the floor and beefed the transom! Replace all the old stuff with new now how can it be the same!!! :D

Ah the same hull and motor LOL!!

Coach What do you need to do to yours? I got mine from an honest Boat dealer in MN. He said all it need was the floor replaced and new Upholstry.
And everything else too. See I told you he was honest.
