Re: 60 HP Chrysler lower unit

The mercury site only shows 1984 and 1985 year models but they have the exact same part number as the 1985 55HP lower unit. What I would do is go to the chrysler crew website and buy a parts manual from them for your motor on cd rom. Once you have this you can go on the mercury web site and compare lower unit part numbers to find out what is compatable with your motor. My guess is a 55 HP lower unit will fit on your motor. Here are the links

Mercury website

Chrysler crew

Re: 60 HP Chrysler lower unit

I have to disagree with JHM a little. There were a few years they made a 55 and 60 twin. Those are unusual gearcases and not the same as the 40s, 45s, 50s and most 55s. They're rather hard to find. So are powerheads that haven't blown up. They didn't hold-up too well.

thanks for replies, this 60 hp is the twin cylinder variety, my searches in the local marine yards show the smaller and bigger hp's to all be different.
thanks

I stand corrected . I was thing of the 65hp twins. I've interchanged parts between a pair of 55s , a 45 , and a 65 hp . Have'nt aquired a 60hp....yet . Did'nt some of those take the same lower unit as the three cyls ?

They looked the same but they were smaller. That was one screaming 60 though. Unfortunately they China Syndrome cuz they're just pushing too many ponies out of a twin.
