Re: Brendella Choke?
Welcome to iboats, its true your engine is 'just' a ford 351 but if its a proper marine version (that has not been messed with) than its purpose modified for marine conditions. Most of the specialist parts are safety related such as the electrics and ignition system are all marine components designed to not send your boat into orbit if you happen to have a bilge full of fuel when you hit the start switch. Carb is also different, its designed to accept a spark arrestor and the vent tube should be J shaped so any excess fuel is vented back into the engine. Distributor may also have no vacuum advance and the advance curve will be designed for marine use. Cam timing is also designed to work best at lower rpm and give good torque down low where you need it. The blower is there to clear the air of any fuel vapors before the ignition and start system gets any power, some work on a time delay others work on a sniffer unit that will monitor the air in the engine enclosure. There are lots of horror stories here about engines that have been modified by good intending owners who dont understand why the marine component costs more than the auto version, truth is there is a much higher profit margin on marine parts but whats your life and the lives of your loved ones worth??? Good luck.
