Hi,
A friend has a 97 Force 120 that the battery goes dead while sitting. I did a search on this and it seems the rectifier could be to blame. Can anyone tell me how to check this?
Thanks

Re: 97 Force battery drain

Hook a volt meter to the battery and then start motor. The voltage should go up after the start and run at least 13 vdc. If voltage does not increase the rectifier is probably hosed. Does his tach work?

When you say the battery drains when sitting around do you mean if the boat sits around for a week not being used? After using the boat it is a good idea to disconnect one of the leads from the battery. YOu could be pulling a load from some other electronics on boat that was not shut down before putting boat away. Battery in storage should read at least 12.45VDC. This is a fully charged battery. If it reads less charge it up and disconnect battery charger. Wait a day and test voltage. If you are unable to maintain a 12.45VDC battery it is probably no good and needs to be replaced.
