I have a chance to buy a Viking 9.2hp engine that looks to have very few hours on it. I believe Vikings were branded for Eaton's Department Stores in Canada but actually manufactured by Chrysler (or West Bend). It is marked Model 94701. What year might I be looking at here? A Chrysler/Force model history in a library book indicates that Chrysler stopped 9.2hp's in 1967 so it could not be newer than that. Good motor? Parts availability? It fired up on the third pull from stone cold.....

Re: Viking 9.2hp year??

Hey guys, dunno if any of this will be helpful, but we'll try.
My book says Viking made the 9.2 from 1966-69. Model numbers are 9601 for 1966 model, 9701 for 1967 model, and I don't have listed beyond this but I'd speculate 9801 and 9901 for 1968 and 1969 models. Sorry but I don't have a S/N crossref.
Spark plugs are Champion J4J gapped at .030". Ignition point gap is .020"
Book is very vague on 9.2 oil mix (doesn't even list) but listing for 6 HP says 24:1
I would recommend 24 to 1 fuel/ oil mix just to be safe. Worst case scenario...you foul plugs a little faster...but your engine don't lock up.
BTW- Viking 9.2 is a Chrysler far as I can tell. Hope you can use this info.
:D
