Would it hurt an engine 1989 FORCE 125 if the setting is 3 turns out instead of the recomended 1-1 1/2 ?

Re: CARB SETTING

Let's see, I assume you're talking about the idle mixture screw. If it's like a Tillotson carb, counterclockwise will give you a richer mixture. So, IMHO, that's OK. Better rich than lean.

Yes the idle mixture screw. Will a too rich setting affect WOT, RPM's, or boat speed?

Re: CARB SETTING

I don't think it will because the high speed jet is fixed and at WOT idle mixture shouldn't be a factor.

You should be asking yourself...why do I have to run the engine with the Lowspeed jets turned 3 turns out.

TMD

Re: CARB SETTING

I asked myself and here is my answer :D When I got the boat they were set at 8 / 7 turns out top and bottom. Reading my newly purchased manual I re-set them to spec, but boat had a rough idle, seems like the setting now works well. WOT 4600 speed 42 mph my prop is in bad shape though.

U68423,
42mph is great and I wish that I could get over 30mph with my Force 125hp. :(

Re: CARB SETTING

U68423 I think what the doctor means is that if you are at three turns you probably have something like varnish gum or something wrong with you idle screw. I had similar problem until I rebuilt and cleaned out my carb. I was almost 7 turns out and after cleaning and rebuild I cant go past 2 turns without a rough idle. Mine purs at 1 turn and I can gun engine without hesitation and get on plane in about 5 seconds. Not bad for a 36 year old motor.

Re: CARB SETTING

I see, I will do a rebuild over the winter it runs ok now I also need a new prop, so before next season I will replace impeller, gaskets, l/u oil, rebuild carbs and T-stat, that should cover it.
