Chrysler 35hp 1978 shifting issue

I have a chrysler 35 hp and have had a problem with low idle shifting ( motor does not want to go into gear at lo idle ) it probably has something to do with the adjustment. My question is can I remove the single lever shift box and install a dual box and will this fix my problem

I would take off the motor leg covers and adjust the shaft. It's very accessible and the manual shows how to do it. A lot cheaper than another control box.
