i just purchased a 1974 chrysler 35hp outboard electric start. i bought this unit from a friend for $225. come to find the lower unit leaks water fast. is this engine worth fixing or should i return it, luckily i have that option if need be. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks jesse

jesse,
For the couple hundred bucks you paid for it, if it runs OK, I'd fix the lower unit leak and run it till it dies.

I've got to agree with cap'n Rick.
For $225, unless the lower is cracked (or otherwise irreparably damaged), your probably well ahead of the game to go ahead and repair.

thanks alot guys for the input. i returned the engine to the owner due to a early christmas present from my folks. a 1995 yamaha 25hp in mint condition was sitting on the back of my boat. once again thanks to all the input and have a great holiday.
