Re: Anchoring

Depends on the type of anchor you have. Much safer to anchore from the Bow.

If you are useing a dansforth then you need lots of anchore line. As an example if you want to anchor in 20 feet of water and the point you tie to on the bow is 2 feet above the water then you need 154 feet of anchore line. 20 feet deep plus 2 feet times 7. 50 feet requires 364 feet of line. This if what is called normal scope and allow your anchor to dig in deep and hold you in place.

Now in light winds and currents you can get by with line maybe as short as 3 to 1 if you add chain to the between the line and the anchor. This will help hold the line down if front of the anchor so anchor can dig in, but if the wind or current picks up you will need the full length of line.

To anchor pull up into the wind or current which ever is stronger put you motor in reverse until you have some sternway then take out of gear and lower anchor. When it hits bottom continue letting out line until you have at least 3 to 1 scope. Then tie off and again kick motor in reverse to set the anchor.

Take motor out of gear and make sure it holding before you shut off the motor. If your staying the night or sleeping then set a anchor watch on your GPS to alert you if the anchor does not hold.
