Hi, I am trying to find what picth prop i should have for a 1987 Force 85 hp with a 17 foot bayliner boat.the numbers on the old prop r wore off.i would like to know what pitch it came with out of the factory or what pitch i should be using. I dont think the prop that is on their is right as my tach reads around 4300 rpm WOT,and i have read where it should be around 5500 rpm.Thanku for your help and time.

Howdy, Bono.

First, make sure that your engine is running properly. It is possible that it once turned 5500 with that prop.

If your engine is in good shape, pull the prop and take it to a prop shop. Tell them your situation.

You probably need about 2" less pitch, but see if you can test the prop before you buy it. Select the pitch that will get you to 5500 with a light load, 5200-5300 with an average load, and 5000 with a heavy load.

Good luck. :)
