I have a Chrysler 135 with a 13X21 prop on a
1974 Beecraft 16' tri-hull. the problem I'm
having is the engine won't make operating rpm
of 4500-5500 rpm, I get 3800 rpm @ 30 mph
with 2 people in the boat, and with more than
2 poeple the boat won't even get on plane.

The engine starts well and seem to run well
comperssions are 120 to 125 ps1.
jets are .096
my altitude here is 3500 above sea level

Is this to much prop or could the jets be to large? Any help is appriciated.

Re: Chrysler 135 proplems

In order of importance I would 1. lower pitch to 19" or 17" cupped. 2. decarbonize twice to raise the psi. closer to mfg's specifications
3. go down .002 or .004" in jet size.

Re: Chrysler 135 proplems

db...everything sounds right except for wot rpm's. I expect you should get 50kts @ 5500rpms with that 13x21 prop. I would check the ignition system. Points(if you have them) distributer cap, plug wires and especially spark plugs. Make sure your fuel is fresh and mixed properly...omc 2cycle oil or equivalent. That is a good motor, and should take a 16' trihull very fast if running and trimmed properly. I have a similar craft with a 70hp chrysler, with a 13x19 prop I can get 40kts easy. Good luck
Thought101
