1960 montg. ward seaking 15 mod.no.gg8823a problem have new o ring seal but not special omc tool to remove and install it. need a work around if there is one.also i replaced impeller but not sure how to tell if working properly no visible sign of water out of exhaust leg motor seemed to get pretty warm so i shut it off laser temp. gun showed 330 degrees on head.

Too hot. Something isn't working right. Did you have enough water in the bucket? These pumps won't self-prime, so they've got to be submerged when you start them up. <br />I think that model works like the early OMC 18hp engines, where all the cooling water exits through the large hole on the back of the midsection. That hole also serves as the idle exhaust relief. Another good test is to place a bead of water on the head. If it sizzles, it's too hot.<br /><br />There's a number of work arounds to removing the shift rod bushing. oops! think your right only had about one half inch of water over cavitation plate. i hope i didnt burn up my new impellor. ran motor for about 5 minutes. ill soon find out when i replace shift seal, thank you for work arounds!
