I recently bought a gulfstream w/ an OMC 3.8 V6 runabout, and am in the process of restoring it. While searching for parts I am running into the problem of figuring out if my omc is an 800 or 400 series ? how do I find out? thanx

Re: OMC Model?

Likely it is a Cobra if it is a V6. Most of the stringers had straight 6 cylinders. I think the last few years 1982 to 1985 they may have had a V6. The V6 would be a series 800. The Series 400 was only for the 4 cylinder.

What year is the boat and motor??

How do you tilt the motor up for beaching or trailering?? Hydralic Cylinders or a quarter round gear?

How do you trim the outdrive?? Raise and lower the front of the motor or hydrolic cylinders?

Re: OMC Model?

Ok it is a stringer and I belive a series 800. The model number you listed should tell anyone selling parts which outdrive you Have.
I belive all the 6 cylinder are series 800 outdrives.
Motor trim will raise and lower the front of the motor.

Tilt will raise the outdrive but only use it in very shallow water at adle and do not raise more than required.
