I have 18' fiberglass gunnel mount outriggers (Perko) on my boat. One of the outriggers has a bent tube and the outrigger will not fully seat in the gunnel mount. I have tried to straighten the kink but have been unsuccessful. I can buy a new stainless steel outrigger tube to replace the bent one. My question is:-

How do I separate the the old bent tube from the fiberglass outrigger shaft?? Is it like a fishing rod ferrule replacement requiring heating or what? What is used to bond the fiberglass outrigger to the outrigger tube? Thanks in advance for your replies!!!

Re: Outrigger Repair Question

I don't believe they are bonded, unless someone did it after they purchased them. If they did good luck. The old Perko's I had would just twist off with a back and forth wrenching motion. If they are really stuck good you might try putting the stainless end in some boiling water and letting them heat up before trying to remove the ends.

Be sure not to touch the hot steal. :p
