This happened to me last time out. I fired up the old RDS-20 at the launch and motored around for a couple of hours, trolling and what-not. Then I dropped anchor and still-fished for a while.

When I got ready to go, not a click from the starter. Now, I knew my battery was OK and that the battery connections were good, so what the heck?

Well, I thought for a minute, then unplugged the connector for the harness at the engine and plugged it back in again. Bingo! Back in business.

I guess in those 47 years, a little film of corrosion had built up on the connector terminals. I got some contact cleaner from Radio Shack and used pipe cleaners to get into the smaller female connections and a Q-tip for the large ones. That cleared it all up.

So...if you're not getting power to your starter or any other stuff connected to the harness...check your connector on any engine that has such a thing. That could save you some diagnostic time.

In troubleshooting conections and plugs are the first things you check.
