I JUST GOT THIS OLD BOAT AND MOTOR AND DIDN'T KNOW IF IT RAN OR NOT. I JUST TRIED TO START IT TODAY AND IT SOUNDS GOOD BUT IT IS NOT FIRING AT ALL I AM ASSUMING THAT THE COIL IS BAD. DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT PARTS FOR THESE MOTORS WHAT BRANDS COULD WORK ON THIS MOTOR. NOBODY I HAVE TALKED TO SEEMS TO KNOW ANYTHING.

Hi pbesi1<br />Welcome to the board. When inquiring about a motor you need to post the model#, ser#,. This will help us to identify the unit in question. Your motor was made by OMC's Gale division between 1960 and 1963. It is basicly the same as all other V4 OMC motors of the era. So a johnson-evinrude manual would work just fine, service parts are the same also.

model # to the motor is 60DE14BL. SERIAL # 874144

Your motor is a 1963 model. Do you have any other questions?

Don't just assume the coil is bad. That is a great way to waste money. An orderly troubleshooting checkout is in order. Could just be dirty points.
