I own a 06 Yamaha 2 stroke. The oil mixture is 100:1 after the break-in period. I have heard that this could lead to premature breakage due to the leaner mix. Is this true? Should I run this outboard at 100:1 or a 50:1 mix? I'm using Yamalube 2-M oil. I ask this question because this is my first outboard motor and I want to enjoy it for years to come.

Thanks

Re: Yamaha 25hp

the controversy is not so much will a 100/1 mix create a failure but will it adequatly protect the shiny parts inside at long periods of non use.
used daily 100/1 is great. sporadic use and 30 day periods of layup without fogging,as per the manual, can lead to internal corrosion.
but other than more smoke at low speed there is not a lot of difference.
I reccomend for extended periods of full throttle to go with the 50/1 incase anything degrades with the cooling system.
while the extra oil wont help a cooling system failure it will aid in minimizing damage from a weed clog or similar issue.
