I dropped the lower unit on one of my 1997 Yamaha Saltwater Series II 200s to clean out the speedo hole and when I re-installed it, the engine won't engage into gear.

Rodbolt or Ray, is there something simple I forgot to do or that I didn't reinstall?

most likly you missed the step of lining up the upper and lower splines. remove the unit, make sure the lower is in neutral, shift the upper control to neutral and try again making sure the two splined shafts mate

I did the same thing. I put in a new water pump on my 250hp, had my boat dropped in the water, then NADA !!

I had no forward or reverse. I didn't think it was possible to put the lower unit back on and miss mating the upper female drive shaft coupler with the lower male splined end.

Live and learn. I will surely never let it happen again !! : )
