Gearbox connecting rod adjustment

Hi guys, I changed the oil and impeller on my 40 hp autolube yammy yesterday (aprox 10-15 yrs old). However, on putting the g/box back on it slips horrendously when putting it into gear.
I assume I have to adjust te length of the connecting rod. I assume that they are counter rotating threads and as such that would take loads of playing to set up.

Has anyone got any hot hints on this?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Gearbox connecting rod adjustment

put the gearbox in reverse/push down
wind the barrel nut up with the engine gearshift in reverse so the 2 wont be touching when the gearbox is installed. install the gearbox and wind the barrel nut down and onto the gearbox shift shaft. tighten the jam nut.
if you still have a problem its likely with the clutch dog

Nice one! Thank you! I think it was ok before - although I hadn't used the boat much. However, it certainly wasn't THIS bad!

Thanks for the info!
