Occasionally and without warning the carb on my small Yamaha 2B starts dripping and the engine fails to start. I suspect flooding due to a sticking needle - is this likely - if so what should i do?

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. Sounds like a sticky float needle/seat. Best to remove the carb and put in a new float valve, but if its only occasionally you may get by temporarily by tapping the bowl with the handle of a screwdriver. They are usually sticking for a reason - dirt, crud, or misaglignmet.

Many thanks - sounds like it must be the answer - I'll replace the float and clean it out.
