85hp runs great across the lake for a short period of time the just loses power as if it is starving for fuel.Tried choking it when this happens with no results. Motor eventually dies but restarts easily and quickly, but when put in gear, it dies again. Have to sit and idle for a time, then motor will run fine for a time, then the cycle starts again. Just rebuilt the carbs. Is it possible for old fuel to do this? I have to try and burn it out, no where to dump it.<br />Thanks for any enlightment on this.

Maybe a blockage in the fuel tank's vent line.. Next time, try opening the fuel filler cap..

Try pumping the fuel bulb when it starts to die. If that helps replace the diaphragm in the fuel pump.

I would take carbs off again, pull all jets, blow them out with high air pressure, clean with ether, replace, seal gasket, then drain gas, put in new, add gas drying agent.
