My YAMAHA 55El vintage 1988 is brightly painted as a YAMAHA but has a information plate, giving serialnumber etc ,but this is in fact a Mariner disc, people in the "know" ??? say that YAMAHA manufactured motors for Mariner up until a certain Date, when was this date up until. And what in fact is my motor a YAMAHA ,a MARINER or both this is a fantastic little motor not the most tecnically advanced but a good reliable motor so far. I have owned this motor for approximately 1 year, the previously owners put a 165 running hours onto the motor, I have the complete service records. maybe sombody can help me with this information request.<br />Regards William Wright.

There is no such thing as a Mariner. They're either Yamaha, Mercury, or Tohatsu. Merc just stuck that name on whatever they could get cheapest. Yours is 100% Yamaha.
