Overheating 1988 Yamaha 90

The motor overheats at higher speed but not at idle or slow speed. Ive seen the reverse so this seems odd. I also noticed that the pisser stream slows down at higher speed. Any ideas before I change out the water pump?

The impeller may be spinning on its hub. I had the same issue and a water pump change did the<br />job.
