I am working on a 2000 Yamaha 225 saltwater series motor on a large fishing boat (27 foot)glass.
Customer states that at high rpm's it cuts out to the point where he gets slammed into the wheel when it cuts out.It does not cut out completely and will continue to run at a much lower rpm. After running at a lower rpm it will then run up to the higher rpm's only to cut out again.
Any idea's of the problem Or any idea of where to start,or what to start troubleshooting?

check for fuel restrictions. an EFI when it runs out of fuel dies instantly. it sometimes wont slow down like a carbed motor. last one I did we found silicone sealant in the anti-siphon valve. motor ran fine until about 5k them cut out so violently the engine would trail out the catch and slam back down. the ignition system is all but bullet proff but carefully watch the tach and see what it does. like does it blank out? when was the last service on the vapor seperator filter?
good luck and keep posting

Just a short followup,it was a clogged screen in the bloat chamber, and the small filter going into the pressure regulator was plugged.
Good call Rodbolt........much thanks
