Default Difference between Yamaha 401 & 403 control box (edit 701 & 703)

Hello AllI have a '89 Yamaha 9.9 four stroke (FT9.9EXF). The parts catalogue says I need a 401 remote but I have seen 403 controls on Ebay and some sellers claim they can be used on 9.9 four strokes (not sure about what years). Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the 401 and the 403?Thanks for you replies!

never heard of either. i have head of a 701,703 and 704 and the flush mount that I cant think of right now. what you have to be aware of is will you need push to throttle or pull and how much room do you have. I assume its on a blow boat.

Sorry that's 701 & 703 and the engine is a pull to accelerate. I've been told that the 701 can be used for either, is this true? What is a blow boat? I have an 19 foot welded aluminum cabin boat and the Yamaha is a kicker for trolling.

hahahaah a blow boat is a sailboat, a kicker on a sail boat is the most neglected POS in the world. as long as the correct pull or push to throttle is used the 701 and 703 can be used, the 704 can be eaily converted. the 701 and 703 can be converted just not as easy. I dont think the 701 had a built in keyswitch and the 703 does.
