no water exhausting from this recently purchased outboard engine. there is an exhaust port on upper rear of leg, exhausts smoke & hot air, but no water. have run the engine in drum of water as well as with hose adaptor. everything looks clean, but has been run in salt water so may be plugged. what nightmares might i be looking at if i drop the bottom of the leg off to clean up the impeller etc.?? Thank you for any help.

If you acquire a used engine you should drop the lower unit and replace the impeller as a matter of course unless someone can prove to you that it was done in the last year. My guess is that when you open the water pump you will see a series of nubs where the rubber vanes should be. If the bolts come out without trouble its an easy fix. Then you just have to worry about where the piece of rubber vanes went and stuck.
