Terrible gas mileage. How to improve ???

I have a 1996 C115 Yamaha. I recently rebuilt the<br />carbs to stop a bogging problem on acceleration.<br />The rebuild fixed the problem but I have now <br />noticed my gas mileage is worse and the engine <br />smokes more than it use to. Any help to improve<br />the gas mileage would be appreciated. I assume an<br />adjustment to the carb needle valves is in order.<br />Any instructions would be appreciated. Thanks in <br />advance.

Your main jets aren't adjustable. The idle mixture screws only after idle mixture, and unless most of your time is spent trolling at idle, adjusting the idle won't substantially affect your mileage. If your mileage is worse thatn it used to be:<br />Check the float settings on your carbs.<br />Check your compression. <br />Check your spark plugs. <br />Check your ignition timing. <br />Check your prop. <br />Check your boat bottom.
