89 yamaha making squealing noise

I have an 89 yamaha 50 HP that makes an high pitched squealing noise when I first start it up but then goes away, sounds like a belt slipping, but very short intermittent pulses. Any help? I know this is the busiest season for all the experts, so thanks in advance.

The lower unit drive shaft is tight on the mid section. Pull the lower unit and inspect the drive shaft for rubbing. You may need to hone out the area where the shaft goes thru the mid section.

Can also be caused by lower crankcase seal leaking. Rough idle will normally be present if this is the problem.

It idles great, sounds like a well tuned harley, so I will check the lower unit, sometimes the motor dies when that noise happens so that may be the problem, I will check it this weekend and get back to you, Thanks for your help!
